Abel García

Abel García is an actor, singer, and voice actor, with a deep, resonant voice and broad harmonic range that gives his instrument an uncommon versatility.

Born in Barcelona, he studied singing with baritone Jerzy Artysz at the Barcelona Opera School and in Warsaw, with baritone Vicente Sardinero in Madrid, and with bass Luigi Roni in Milan; as well as acting, clowning, and neutral mask with Pierre Byland, Johnny Melville, Berty Tobias, Carlo Tomassi, and Nadine Abad.

He has performed in musical theatre, zarzuela, opera, oratorio, theatre, and television, in productions such as The Physician (Avicenna, beon. Entertainment, world premiere, No.1 in the critics’ rankings, winner of five Musical Theatre Awards and eleven BroadwayWorld Awards), Jesus Christ Superstar (Caiaphas), Sea and Sky (Mar i cel, Joanot), Mahagonny (Joe, the Alaskan Wolf), Sweeney Todd (Max Award), Guys & Dolls (Barcelona Critics’ Award), La venganza de don Mendo (King Alfonso / The Abbot), La generala (General Tocateca), The Little Magic Flute (Sarastro), Boccato di cardinale (Comediants), El barberillo de Lavapiés (Don Pedro de Monforte), La tabernera del puerto (Verdier), La bruja (Inquisitor), El asombro de Damasco (Ka-fur / The Caliph), Los sobrinos del capitán Grant (General), Don Carlo, Aida, Parsifal, Turandot, Carmen, Requiem for the Victims of Chernobyl, LaLola and Centro Médico (Antena 3 and TVE, Zebra Producciones).

He has performed in Spain’s main theatres and toured in England and France, under the musical direction of Iván Macías, Ros Marbà, Miguel Roa, Pérez-Sierra, Óliver Díaz, García Calvo, Miquel Ortega, Josep Pons, Xavier Torras, and Sergi Cuenca; and staged by Mario Gas, Alfredo Sanzol, Paco Mir, Luis Olmos, Joan Font, Jesús Castejón, and Stephen Rayne, among others.

He is a member of The Gourmets Vocal Quartet (negro spirituals, gospel, and soul) and collaborates with Shirai (vibrational music with crystal quartz bowls, didgeridoos, and overtone singing). He has hosted live the World Swimming and Pelota Championships, and has recorded Sweeney Todd, Jesus Christ Superstar, Mulan (Disney), The Prince of Egypt (Spielberg), Bartok the Magnificent (20th Century Fox), One Hour More in the Canary Islands (David Serrano), and Kamikaze (Álex Pina), where he performed the songs of Argentine actor Eduardo Blanco; as well as Rosita, Please (Ventura Pons), A Night at the Opera (La Cubana), and Pérez, the Mouse of Your Dreams (Filmax). He has also lent his voice to advertising, videomappings, and dubbing in films and series such as Gladiator II, The Brutalist, Sandman 2, Yellowstone, 1923, and Cobra Kai. He also joined a Clowns Without Borders expedition after the war.

He sang at the world premiere of The Pillars of the Earth on March 6, 2019, at Madrid’s Teatro Nuevo Apolo, in the presence of Ken Follett.
